Club Policies and Rules
Guests are welcome at the Georgetown Prep Tennis Club. Non-members may rent courts, participate in programs, take lessons and play on contracts. Guests on contracts and guests of Early Birds pay our guest fee. Program and lesson prices include a guest-fee surcharge. No player may be a guest of Early Birds more than twice a month. Guests pay a higher price for spot time, lessons and programs.
The club teaching professionals have designed the group tennis programs to ensure that players, whether adult or youth, are playing in a compatible group. For adults, drills and point play use a doubles format. Pros evaluate each player’s technique, power, consistency and court coverage to ensure that all players in a group are playing at a comparable level. The goal is to ensure that classes are fun and challenging for all players.
For juniors, classes are arranged by a combination of age and skill-level, with some classes reserved for older youths for social and developmental reasons. See our Junior Program Pathway for more information or call the club to discuss the choice of class with one of our pros. We may require a brief evaluation lesson before placing a player in an advanced class.
The club reserves the right to move any player out of a class, if the pro deems the class inappropriate for the player’s skills.
Make-Ups for Missed Classes
The Club makes every effort to arrange make-ups for missed classes, but cannot guarantee that a make-up will be possible. To ensure the best possible experience for players, make-ups should be arranged as follows:
Notify the pro to say that a class will be missed and to request that the missed class be rescheduled or “booked” for future rescheduling.
Only the pro, not the Front Desk, can schedule a make-up for programs.
Walk-ins for make-ups may not be allowed, as there may not be sufficient staff to handle the extra players.
Make-ups may only be scheduled during the same session as the missed class.
For drop-in classes (Live Ball, Men’s Night, Cardio), customers must notify the pro or the front desk at least 24 hours before the class to cancel or reschedule the class. A customer may be charged if they fail to cancel or reschedule in a timely manner.
Once a make-up has been rescheduled, a customer must notify the pro at least 24 hours before the class if they wish to change the day. Make-ups may be lost if the customer does not reschedule them in a timely manner.
Registrations, Reservations and Payments
Advance Court Reservations. Courts may be reserved up to seven days in advance for Early Birds and Spot Time. Night Owl Courts may be reserved only a day in advance. Spot time and Night Owl courts may not be cancelled and no-shows will be charged.
Fee Policy: Due to timing considerations and unpredictable utility cost increases, lesson and program fees stated in this brochure are subject to change. Please confirm fee structure at the time of sign up.
Payment: In order to hold a spot in a program, payment is due in full upon registration. Program fees can be paid by check, Visa, MasterCard or Discover and credit card registrations may be taken by phone. All pro-rated and/or drop-in fees will be substantially higher if paid on a per class basis. Scheduled private lesson fees will be assessed in full for cancellations made later than 24 hours in advance.
Refunds and Cancellations: A $50 Administration fee will be imposed for all program cancellations within 2 weeks of the designated start date. Drop in classes may be rescheduled at no penalty up to 24 hours in advance. Scheduled private lessons fees will be assessed in full for cancellations made later than 24 hours in advance.
Parking: Enter Georgetown Prep school grounds at the Rockville Pike/Strathmore entrance. Players and guests of the Georgetown Prep Tennis Club are required to park in the spaces adjacent to the tennis courts that are designated as “tennis parking only."
Sign in and Security Matters: As you enter the Clubhouse, please check in with front desk personnel. Members are required to submit their membership cards and register any guests. Program participants must also check in. In light of recent school tragedies, SLI requests that the registration policies be respectfully followed as they are an important security requirement.
Lost Items: Georgetown Prep Tennis Club is not responsible for members’ lost or stolen personal articles.
Deposits: All deposits are non-refundable, unless the time requested is not available.
Equipment: Only smooth soled tennis shoes (no cross trainers) can be worn on the indoor clay courts. During the winter months, Georgetown Prep Tennis Club maintains the temperature between 55-60 degrees which, after a brief warm up, is quite comfortable. This ideal playing temperature requires players to wear a light sweater/warm up for approximately ten minutes after which most players prefer to play in short sleeves and shorts/skirts.
Tennis Only: Members and their guests are entitled to the use of the tennis facility only. Additional sporting facilities (swimming pool, running track, gymnasium, golf course) on the campus of Georgetown Prep are not available to Tennis Club Members.
Reciprocal Privileges. Members can play spot time and participate in programs at member rates at Georgetown Prep Tennis Club and Quince Orchard Swim & Tennis Club.
The club usually remains open even if local schools or businesses are closed. Customers will be notified by email in the unlikely event of a weather-related closure. In the event of a closure, missed program classes will be made up or rescheduled.
